Mac Tip: Hiding an Application

Sometimes I find I have too many applications open, but I still need them open. But I also don't like minimizing as it overcrowds the dock. I discovered an awesome tip one day of CMD + H. This will literally hide the application, not minimize it. The dock icon will still be there so you can simply click that to show the application again.

In Snow Leopard there's an extra feature. In System Preference -> Dock there's an option to "Minimize windows to application icon". This is even better than hiding because when you show all your windows with the F3 key or with Expose it will show the minimized application windows in the lower part of your screen under a line and slightly smaller to indicate that it's minimized. This option is only available in Snow Leopard. People still hanging out with Leopard should stick to CMD + H for a quick hide of an application window out of site.
