Exclude Aperture Library Thumbnails from CrashPlan+ Backups

One thing that Time Machine backup does is it excludes the thumbnails that Aperture generates. This is handy, for a smallish library that will save you about 4-5GB in backups space, and when you restore from a Time Machine backup Aperture sees the thumbnails missing and auto-regenerates them.

CrashPlan+, as great as it is, by default will backup Aperture thumbnails. To exclude them from your CrashPlan+ backup and save some internet upload time and space just add the following regular expression to the Filename Exclusions setting.

(.+).aplibrary/Thumbnails(.*)

The thumbnails are stored in a single directory immediately inside the library, so this will exclude the thumbnail directory and it's files of any Aperture library.

Note: Make sure you tick the "Regular Expression" tick box when adding it to the filename exclusion list otherwise it won't work properly.
