Thoughts on Equality

News.com.au has published an article today about the Indian Air Force stating that the "Indian Air Force has drawn flak from women activists after it suggested it might allow female pilots to fly fighter jets but only if they promised not to have babies."

I get the point with equality. Woman and men should be valued equally, but equal opportunity is sometimes a matter of practicality. I find it pretty easy to see where the Indian Air Force is coming from. It would be a bad investment on their part to invest $2.17 million into training a women to be a pilot, only for her to leave the Air Force and take on mothering. People get caught up in the ideals of equality so much that they forget that life is practical not thereotical.

I can't imagine it would be any different if a guy applied to be a pilot in the Indian Air Force and told them "in 2 years I plan on doing something else for a few years". I imagine it would also lower the chance of them employing him. When businesses higher employees they are looking for individuals that will commit and different jobs require different types of committment. The Indian Air Force are just taking the necessary measures to ensure they get the committment that matches, and makes the most of their investment.

From a spiritual perspective, I think people forget God made man and woman. If he wanted us to be exactly the same, do all the same things, and be all the same things I doubt He would have made two unique forms. Knowing God we can recognise the awesomeness in God's creation of man and woman, and the partnership that those two forms make way for. Once you see that, it makes the strict human ideal of equality pretty lame by comparison.

Hope Media on the iPhone App Store

My second iPhone application has made it to the iPhone App Store. Developed for the Hope Media Ltd, better known for their Sydney's Hope 103.2 radio station, it streams their four online streams, including the new Christmas Hope station, using HE-AACv1 (aacPlus). First version is pretty basic, just playing the stream, volume control, and persistent buffering logic to reduce the amount of interaction the user needs to take with the app when listening.

Install the Hope Media from the App Store and give it a listen :).
Available on the iPhone App Store.
